The Ashbrook Dorm
All freshman Ashbrook Scholars live together in Mishler House on the third floor of Andrews Hall at Ashland University. Most of the residents of Mishler House are freshmen, but some upperclassman Ashbrook Scholars reside there as well and serve as mentors to the freshmen, helping them to become acclimated to college life and to the Ashbrook Scholar Program.
Students have access to a living room with two televisions, a printer, and a vast array of books. A state-of-the-art kitchen is available for student use as well as five washers and five dryers. All of the rooms are air-conditioned, one of the few dorms on campus available to underclassmen where that is the case.
We have found that housing our students together on this floor as freshmen allows them to befriend one another much more quickly. It also results in students forming their own study groups with greater ease, and in general, the students are made better by the experience.
Even after their freshman year, Mishler House remains a sanctuary for upperclassman Ashbrook Scholars who are always welcome on the floor to participate in the lively debates that are common in the lounge or just to drop by for a bag of freshly popped popcorn from the kitchen.
